Samantha is a passionate nutritionist (BHSc), health writer and public speaker with a love of words, mindfulness and food as medicine. Holding a Bachelor of Health Science and a Certificate 3 in Fitness, Sam has plans of further studies in PT, meditation teaching and journalism – ever the eternal student.
Supporting Australian based businesses and causes is an important part of who Sam is and she's a proud ambassador of Smiling Mind, and a student rep for Endeavour College of Natural Health.
Sam also hopes to be an ongoing role model for those who seek wellness despite having chronic health conditions, by practising what she calls 'Chronically Thriving' – not allowing a health condition to hold her back, but rather working with her body so that it can be healthy and happy.
She has a beautiful staffie named Nina, an inability to sleep with socks on, and a love of networking and connecting with like-minded people.
Go-to morning beverage?
Depends on the time of year! In the colder months, I love a herbal tea, a turmeric latte or even just hot water with a splash of lemon. When the weather warms up, I love a fresh smoothie or cold-pressed juice.
What inspires you?
Life inspires me. It can be the sunshine coming in through the window, a friend winning over their fear, an inspirational blog post, anything that is connected to passion and purpose.
What’s your philosophy when it comes to healthy living?
It's two-fold – firstly, that there is no such thing as one perfect lifestyle for everyone. We are all individual with different needs, preferences and biochemical makeups. And secondly, that deep down we intuitively know what is best for us.
The one healthy treat you can’t live without?
I love dark chocolate, organic spicy capsicum dip with veggie sticks, or a spoonful of nut butter.
How do you relax and spend your ‘me time'?
I love walking my beautiful staffie, Nina. It helps me unwind after a long day, or to blow out the cobwebs when I've been working for several hours.
Where’s your ideal coffee date?
In the sunshine on a warm day! Location doesn't matter as much as the environment does.
Is it OK to eat chocolate for breakfast?
If it's quality chocolate paired with some protein, good fat and/or produce, sure! I often chuck cacao into a smoothie for a chocolately start to the day.
Favourite foodie or health & wellness instagram accounts?
I'm a big fan of Melissa Ambrosini, Lola Berry (a fellow Endeavour graduate) and Endeavour College of Natural Health – I love seeing what the students are up to these days! I also love following along with Smiling Mind, my go-to meditation app.
Dark or milk chocolate?
Dark all the way! I love 70-85% the best.
What’s your favourite recipe that uses cacao?
Probably my Snickers Nice Cream recipe
One mantra you live by
Any time I take a chance on something, I close my eyes for a moment, and repeat to myself: 'This, or something better.' It reminds me that if I miss out on something, there's a reason.
